May 9 Butterscotch Brownie Day

May 9 Butterscotch Brownie Day

Butterscotch Brownie Day is observed annually on May 9. Butterscotch brownies, also known as “blondies,” are delicious baked goodies that date back to the 19th century. Recipes for these soft, chewy bars most likely evolved from medieval gingerbread cake recipes.

The first non-chocolate brownie-like recipes were soft cakes that were made by the Ancient Romans, Greeks and Egyptians.
To make butterscotch brownies, you need flour, baking powder, salt, butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, eggs, and butterscotch. Popular add-in ingredients include walnuts, pecans, butterscotch pieces, chocolate chips, Nutella, banana, or cranberries. You can also choose to add a topping like chocolate Irish cream frosting or drizzled caramel.
Brownies without the chocolate have been around for a long time. Recipes in cookbooks from the 1740s - 1940s had a variety of recipes for blonde brownies in them. Many of these recipes included using brown sugar and butter, the key ingredients in butterscotch

May 8 Coconut Cream Pie Day

May 8 Coconut Cream Pie Day

Coconut Cream Pie Day is observed annually on May 8. Cream pie is a type of pie, made of crust and filled with a rich custard or pudding. The pudding can have different flavors, and one of them is coconut. Cream pie is always great, and you can choose what kind of dessert you want. For example, you may leave the crust, if you don't want it, and enjoy only the filling.

There are different recipes for pie crust you can use. You can make the crust with a coconut that will make an extra hit of coconut flavor. If you want something special, then use chocolate cookie crumb pie shell that goes well with coconut filling.
Some extra ideas will be useful to make coconut filling more flavorful. Add some crushed pineapple for a pineapple coconut cream or diced ripe bananas for a banana coconut cream. The both variants are great, as well as simple coconut cream. And as far as coconut cream pie is good for every day, not only for today, you can make this dessert any time you wish.

1891 – The first bottling of Coco-Cola occurred at the Biedenharn Candy Company in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
1894 – The first outdoor wall advertisement that promoted the Coca-Cola drink was painted in Cartersville, Georgia
1914 – The longest running commercial Coca-Cola soda fountain anywhere was Atlanta’s Fleeman’s Pharmacy. The pharmacy closed it’s doors in 1995 after 81 years.

May 6 Beverage Day

May 6 Beverage Day

Beverage Day is observed annually on May 6. We can all safely assume that the day encourages people to honor their beverages of choice and acknowledge that a humble beverage has the power to make or break many situations. It may be hot, cold, blended, shaken, alcoholic, non-alcoholic, sweet, sour, smooth, dry, freshly squeezed, frozen or any other type.

A good beverage can energize you after a long, tiring day; it can make a long, boring meal go fast; it can bring together two strangers; and it can make a party more fun. Whether your preferred beverage is a hot cup of tea, a delicious and healthy smoothie or a tall glass of lemonade, Beverage Day is the perfect excuse to indulge yourself by drinking it all day long.

Beverage Day should be a day of pleasure and relaxation. Grab a bottle, can, a glass, or a six-pack of your favorite beverage. Sit down in a comfortable chair, indoors or out. Slowly sip and savor your drink. Life is good. Raise a glass to all your favorite beverages on Beverage Day.

May 6 Crepe Suzette Day

May 6 Crepe Suzette Day

May 6 is Crepe Suzette Day. Crepe Suzette was invented by Henri Carpentier, head waiter at the Café de Paris in Monte-Carlo.

French dessert crepe Suzette consists of fresh crepes and sauce of butter, sugar, orange juice, zest and liquor like Grand Marnier or orange Curacao. The ingredients for the sauce are put on top of the crepes and then served flambé. The ignition of crepes makes the dramatic presentation (by the way, the dessert is made in front of the customers) and also results in evaporating of alcohol. The thick sweet sauce covers crepes, so you can enjoy your dessert.
Sometimes this story is disputed, because Henri Carpentier couldn't make the dish, as far as he was just a 14-year old waiter assistant, but not maître d'hôtel. And assistant couldn't serve the prince instead of the head waiter, because he would have been too young.

May 5 Hoagie Day

May 5 Hoagie Day

Hoagie Day is celebrated annually on May 5th. The hoagie sandwich is also known as the sub, hero, grinder, Italian, torpedo or baguette among others. This became known as the “Hog Island” sandwich which later was shortened to the “hoagie”. A Hoagie is a sandwich that consists of a long roll of Italian or French bread, split widthwise either into two pieces or opened in a "V" on one side.

It is reported that in 1953, the Italians working at the World War I-era shipyard in Philadelphia, known as Hog Island, introduced the sandwich by putting various meats, cheeses, and lettuce between two slices of bread. Former Philadelphia mayor (and later Pennsylvania governor) Ed Rendell declared the hoagie the “Official Sandwich of Philadelphia”.

Though human activities have allowed the expansion of a few species, such as the Barn Swallow and European Starling, they have caused population decreases or extinction in many other species. Over a hundred bird species have gone extinct in historical times.
