February 1 Freedom Day

February 1.Freedom Day

NFD 0001

February 1 National Freedom Day is a United States performance on February 1 honoring the signing by Abraham Lincoln of a joint House and Senate resolution that later became the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. President Lincoln signed the Amendment outlawing slavery on February 1, 1865, although it was not ratified by the states until later.

The first commemoration took place on February 1, 1942, at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As it has every year since, the remembrance included laying a wreath at the Liberty Bell.

The United States president may annually issue a proclamation on the day. Some educational institutions may incorporate themes relating to National Freedom Day as part of class discussion, readings, and other learning activities that explore the importance of the day and its history.

February 1 NATIONAL SERPENT DAY

February 1 NATIONAL SERPENT DAY

NSD 0001

February 1, Serpent Day is a day of reflection and coming to grips with our fears. Across religions and cultures, the serpent has been used as a symbol of evil, medicine, fertility and much more. Also a synonym for snake, February 1st observes National Serpent Day.

Serpent Day, you could spend this time contemplating some of your key life experiences and deciding what lessons they've taught you and how you could use this knowledge to improve your life in the future.

Do some research on snakes or go to a zoo to see some in person. Around the world there are over 3,000 species of snakes.

Serpents deserve a day dedicated to them; its presence is somehow necessary, what with all of the fables and stories abound with snake-inspired situations and wise or evil serpents, that have filled our culture for as long as any of our ancestors could remember.

February 1 Baked Alaska Day

February. 1 BAKED ALASKA DAY

NABD 0001

Baked Alaska Day is celebrated yearly on February 1st.

It’s National Baked Alaska Day! Baked Alaska is a decadent sweet made with ice cream, sponge cake, and toasted meringue. A similar dessert in Hong Kong is known as flame on the iceberg. Though the name “Baked Alaska” did not emerge until the 19th century, this dish is part of a long culinary tradition.

In the United States 1867 there was earnest debate over the potential purchase of Alaska from Russia. Secretary of State William Seward agreed to a purchase price of $7 million and Alaska became a United States territory in 1868. Those who were of the opinion the purchase was a giant mistake referred to the purchase as “Seward’s Folly”.

The Chinese were the first nation to prepare pastry over an ice cream filling, which results in a delicious combination of hot and cold components. Credit is also due to the American physicist Benjamin Thompson, who experimented with the heat resistance of beaten egg whites and discovered how to make meringue.

February 1 Dump Your Significant Jerk Day

DSJD 0001
February 1 Dump Your Significant Jerk Day is the day to unload the "baggage" called a bad relationship. If you have a jerk of a boyfriend or girlfriend today is your opportunity to tell them to "get lost". This holiday is a win-win.
What if you’re in a relationship with a Jerk or Jerkette? You know the type … never sends cards, never brings presents, never even notices the day that contributes mightily to the national gross profit every year.
Very Popular in United State of America.
To prep yourself for a breakup, grab a mirror to practice what you're going to say. This way, you can hopefully avoid slip-ups, but even more importantly, build your confidence -- especially if you're dealing with an over-confident jerk.
And since honesty is the key to a good relationship, you'll also want to depend on it for a smooth ending.
You can end that unhappy relationship and save yourself some money because you do not have to purchase a Valentine's Day gift.
