March 13 K9 Veterans Day

March 13th recognizes National K9 Veterans Day. The United States K9 Force were created on March 13, 1942.

During the first world war, the United States find that the European use of canines as patrolling, message carriers and several other duties. The first Dogs for Defense were trained and assigned to duty in North Africa in November 1942.

As the time passed the military, police and rescue have developed a variety of training methods for K9 units. Dogs for Defense program was initiated by Mrs. Alene Erlanger with the American Kennel Club and a handful of breeders, the group aimed to train the dogs for military use.
