October 16 Dictionary Day

October 16 Dictionary Day

Today day is October 16 Dictionary Day observed yearly. Dictionary Day is held in honor of Noah Webster. Webster began to write his dictionary at the age of 43. It took him 27 years to finish it.

In 1806, American Noah Webster published his first Compendious Dictionary of the English. Webster learned twenty-six languages, including Old English (Anglo-Saxon), German, Greek, Latin, Italian, Spanish, French, Hebrew, Arabic and Sanskrit.
Dictionary Day would exist to encourage us to challenge our vocabulary, to broaden it and perhaps take an opportunity to expand our language to the full scope of the tongue’s diversity.
Celebrate by learning a new word, give new dictionary to those who try to learn and developed them self. Especially poor kids who does not afford this dictionary.
