March 14 is also celebrate for Butterflies as Learn About Butterflies Day, so let’s learn something about butterflies. A butterfly is a mainly day-flying insect which includes the butterflies and moths. The butterfly's life cycle consists of four parts: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Butterflies have large, often brightly colored wings, and conspicuous, fluttering flight.

There are more than 20,000 types of butterflies worldwide. The Monarch butterfly from Mexico to northern USA and southern Canada, a distance of about 2500 to 3000 miles. Their wing spans can range from 1/2 inch to 11 inches.

Butterflies feed primarily on liquid from flowers. Some also derive nourishment from pollen, tree sap, rotting fruit, dung, decaying flesh, and dissolved minerals in wet sand or dirt.
