Scotch Day is celebrated annually on July 27. Scotch whisky, often simply called Scotch, is malt whisky or grain whisky made in Scotland. Scotch whisky has been produced since the late 15th century. All Scotch was originally made from malted barley. Modern Scotch is made from malt and grain which can be combined in different ways to create blends.

Scotch whisky is divided into five distinct categories: single malt Scotch whisky, single grain Scotch whisky, blended malt Scotch whisky (formerly called “vatted malt” or “pure malt”), blended grain Scotch whisky, and blended Scotch whisky.

All Scotch whisky must be aged in oak barrels for at least three years. Any age statement on a bottle of Scotch whisky, expressed in numerical form, must reflect the age of the youngest whisky used to produce that product. A whisky with an age statement is known as guaranteed-age whisky.

July 26 Bagelfest Day

Bagelfest Day is observed annually on July 26. Bagelfest introduced to the United States by immigrant Polish-Jews, bagels were a thriving business that developed in New York City. Controlled for decades by Bagel Bakers Local 338, which had contracts with nearly all bagel bakeries in and around the city for its workers, who prepared all their bagels by hand.

This crunchy on the outside and chewy in the middle bread is very popular in the USA and Canada. Served with a variety of toppings as well as produced in a variety of flavors, bagel shops are a staple in most communities across the country.

It all started nearly 90 years ago when Harry Lender made bagels in his garage in Connecticut. Later, the “father of the frozen bagels” opened the first bagel bakery on the east coast. Today, the company owns the world’s largest bagel factory located in Mattoon, Illinois.

July 26 Coffee Milkshake Day

On July 26 Coffee Milkshake Day is celebrated every year. Milkshakes have been around since 1880s. Originally they contained whiskey, but by 1900 milkshakes became non-alcoholic. A refreshing caffeinated beverage is a perfect drink for a warm summer day.

A milkshake is typically made from milk and ice cream with added sweeteners and flavorings. Coffee-flavored milkshakes are made with brewed coffee, instant coffee, coffee-flavored ice cream, coffee syrup, or coffee liqueur.

To make a coffee milkshake, blend 1 cup cold-brewed coffee, 4 large scoops vanilla ice cream, and 1 tbs chocolate syrup together until smooth. If the mixture is too thin, add more ice cream. If it is too thick, add some milk. Pour the milkshake into a glass and top with whipped cream. You can substitute cold-brewed coffee with chilled regular coffee, but keep in mind that regular coffee is stronger.

July 25 Hot Fudge Sundae Day

Hot Fudge Sundae Day Celebrated on July 25. A sundae is the perfect treat to enjoy on a summer night. A sundae typically consists of several scoops of ice cream topped with syrup or sweet sauce. Sometimes other toppings are added including whipped cream, sprinkles, fresh or canned fruits, maraschino cherries.

The caramel sundae includes heated caramel sauce instead of heated chocolate sauce, and in the butterscotch sundae heated chocolate sauce is replaced with butterscotch. The turtle sundae is made with vanilla ice cream, hot caramel and hot fudge sauces, and toasted pecan nuts.

The Guinness Book of World Records has documented several record-setting sundaes. For example, the most expensive sundae can be ordered at Serendipity 3 in New York City for the hefty sum of $1000. In 2009, the Kids Club in Brunswick, Georgia created the world’s longest sundae. It measured over 130 feet long.

July 24 Tequila Day

The annual celebration of National Tequila Day is on July 24th. Tequila is a distilled beverage which is made from the blue agave plant. Mexico is granted international right to the word “tequila”.

The Consejo Regulador del Tequila (Tequila Regulatory Council) in 2008, reported 901 registered brands of tequila from 128 different producers. Made primarily in the area surrounding the city of Tequila, 40 miles Northwest of Guadalajara and in the highlands (Los Altos) of the western Mexican state of Jalisco. More than 300 million blue agave plants are harvested in that surrounding region each year. Agave tequila grows differently depending on the region. Blue Agave – grown in the highlands region – larger in size and sweeter in aroma and taste. Agave – grown in the lowland region – have more herbaceous fragrance and flavor.

July 23 Vanilla Ice Cream Day

Vanilla Ice Cream Day is observed annually on July 23rd. In North America and Europe the most common use of vanilla flavoring is for ice cream, and many people consider it to be the "default" or "plain" flavor. Sales in ice cream parlors are more variable, as new flavors come and go, but about three times as many people call vanilla their favorite compared to chocolate, the runner-up.

There are different types of ice cream according to the flavoring used. Regular vanilla ice cream is flavored by natural vanilla extract. If the ice cream is flavored with vanillin from natural vanilla, it is referred to as vanilla flavored ice cream. If the ice cream is flavored with artificial vanillin, it is called artificially flavored vanilla ice cream.

Jefferson produced a handwritten copy of a vanilla ice cream recipe in the 1780′s, which is now housed at the Library of Congress. The Thomas Jefferson ice cream is available at Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota.

To celebrate Vanilla Ice Cream, indulge yourself with several scoops of vanilla ice cream. You can top it with flavored syrup or sweet sauce, whipped cream, fruits, or sprinkles but it will taste delicious even without any toppings.

July 23 Day of the Cowboy

Day of the Cowboy – Fourth Saturday in July – currently being researched, Day Of The Cowboy is observed annually on the fourth Saturday in July. Day of the Cowboy was organized by the NDOC organization with it’s first celebration in 2005. The organization is working diligently on making this day “official”.

The former President Bush, “We celebrate the Cowboy as a symbol of the grand history of the American West. The Cowboy’s love of the land and love of the country are examples for all Americans.”

To celebrate you can dress like a cowboy, host a hoedown, attend a rodeo, go horseback riding, or curl up on the couch to watch your favorite Westerns.

July 22 Penuche Fudge Day is celebrated annually. Penuche is a type of fudge made with butter, milk, and brown sugar and flavored with vanilla.

Penuche is popular mainly in New England and some places in the American South; though in the latter it is usually referred to as brown sugar fudge candy.

Penuche (Italian: panucci) is a fudge-like candy made from brown sugar, butter, and milk, using no flavorings except for vanilla. Penuche often has a tannish color, and is lighter than regular fudge. It is formed by the caramelization of brown sugar; thus, its flavor is said to be reminiscent of caramel. Nuts, especially pecans, are often added to penuche for texture, especially in the making of penuche candies. It is primarily a regional food, found in New England and some places in the Southern United States.

Penuche fudge is usually prepared in the following way. The mixture of brown sugar, butter, and milk is heated to the soft ball stage and set aside to cool. When the mixture is lukewarm, flavorings (for instance, nuts, vanilla, or maple syrup) are added. The mixture is beaten until thick and poured into a pan. Penuche is cooled and cut into pieces before serving.
