June 24 Pralines Day

Pralines Day is observed annually on June 24. Pralines were originally created in France by coating almonds in caramelised sugar.

The powder made by grinding up sugar-coated nuts is called pralin. This is an ingredient in many types of cake, pastries and ice creams. When this powder is mixed with chocolate, it becomes praliné in French, which gave birth to what is known in French as chocolat praliné.

The French settlers brought their recipe into Louisiana, an area of the United States where both sugar cane and pecan trees were plentiful.

During the 19th century, New Orleans chefs substituted pecans for almonds, added cream to thicken the confection and thus created what is known throughout the Southern United States as the praline.

There are a variety of pralines to be enjoyed:

Belgian Pralines – contain a hard chocolate shell with a softer, sometimes liquid, filling.

French Pralines – a combination of almonds and caramelized sugar.

American Pralines – contain milk or cream and are softer and creamier, resembling fudge.

June 23 Pink Day

Pink Day is celebrated on June 23, 2016. Take care, that all your clothing’s and accessories are pink on this day. Pink Day encourages everybody to wear at least a little bit of pink.

The Rococo Period (1720-1777) was the golden age for the color pink. Pastel colors became very fashionable in all the courts of Europe during this time. Madame de Pompadour (1721-1764), the mistress of King Louis XV of France, was known for wearing the color pink, often combined with light blue. At one point in time, Ms. Pompadour had a particular tint of pink made specifically for her.

June 22 Chocolate Eclair Day

The word “eclair” comes from the French word, meaning “flash of lightning.”

Originating during the nineteenth century in France, the eclair was first called “pain à la Duchesse” or “petite Duchesse.” It is believed, by food historians, that eclairs were first made by French chef Antonin Careme (1784-1833).

The 1884 Boston Cooking School Cook Book, by Mrs. D.A. Lincoln, has the first known English-language recipe for eclairs. On This day everyone has to enjoy a delicious cream-filled pastry that is covered in smooth chocolate.

June 22 Onion Rings Day

June 22 Onion Rings Day is observed annually, dedicated to one of the best loved side dishes; onion rings. Also found in Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and some parts of Asia, onion rings exact origin are unknown.

The origin of the Onion Rings is actually somewhat mysterious, but we do know that in 1802 a recipe was published in ”The Art of Cookery Made Easy and Refined”. This recipe describes a process of dipping ½” Onion Rings s dipped into a rather flavorful mixture of flour with creams and cheeses and then boiling them in a vat of lard. Following on the heels of this was a suggestion to serve it with a sauce made of a mixture of mustard and butter.

June 20 Vanilla Milkshake Day

June 20 is Vanilla Milkshake Day, people happily celebrate this day annually.

The first time the term “milkshake” was used in print was in 1885. The first milkshakes were not suitable for children, because the drinks contained whiskey. By the 1900s eggs and whiskey were dropped and milkshake was made with chocolate, strawberry or vanilla syrup. And the milkshake we know was born in 1922, when an employee at Chicago Walgreens added two scoops of ice cream to malted milk that was widely used for milkshakes.

JUNE 20 AMERICAN EAGLE DAY

Observed each year on June 20th is American Eagle Day. The Bald Eagle is both the national bird and the national animal of the United States of America and appears on its Seal.

This day is set aside to honor our national symbol, raise awareness for protecting the Bald Eagle, assist in the recovery of their natural environments and take part in educational outreach.

In the latter 20th century, the Bald Eagle was on the brink of extinction in the continental United States. Eventually, populations recovered and on July 12, 1995, the species was removed from the U.S. Federal Government’s List of Endangered Species and transferred to the List of Threatened Species. On June 2007, it was withdrawn from the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife in the Lower 48 States.

The name “Bald Eagle” derives from an older meaning of “white headed” as the bird is actually not bald. The adult eagle is mainly brown with a white head and tail.

June 19 Martini Day

Martini Day is observed annually on June 19. Martini has grown to become one of the best-known mixed alcoholic drinks Martini has been enjoyed as an alcoholic gin and vermouth cocktail for many decades and is now one of the most famous cocktails in the world.

The ratio of gin to vermouth has been steadily increasing since the cocktail was created. During the latter part of the 20th century, 6:1, 8:1, 12:1, or even 50:1 or 100:1 martinis became considered the norm.
