March 27 Easter – Changes Annually

Easter – Changes Annually March 27, 2016.

Easter is a 'movable feast', which means that its date is not fixed in the calendar. The date is calculated according to the lunar calendar, formalized in Ecclesiastical date tables. The date of Easter Sunday can fall between 22 March and 25 April. it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Depending on which calendar a church follows, some will celebrate Easter earlier than others.

Leading up to Easter Sunday is an entire season of Easter observances beginning with Ash Wednesday, the official beginning of Lent. Lent is a time of fasting and reflection which represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness for 40 days. Many know this as a time when Christians give something up for Lent.

Easter is related to the Jewish festival of Pesach (Passover).

According to the Gospels it was at sunrise on the first Easter Day - the 3rd day following Jesus' death - that the women who followed Jesus found the great stone blocking his tomb had been rolled away, and the tomb empty.

The Gospel of John (20.14-16) relates how Mary Magdalene meets Jesus by the tomb, but does not at first recognize him, taking him to be a gardener. Finally realizing that he has indeed risen from the dead, as he had promised he would, she runs to tell the disciples the good news. These events fulfill the prophecy that 'The Son of Man must be handed over to sinful men, be crucified, and three days later rise to life.' (Luke 24.7).

You can participate in any number of church services. Dye eggs with children and have an Easter egg hunt. Local communities hold annual Easter egg hunts as well, so check your local social media, newspapers and community listings for dates and times. #Easter, share on social media.

March 27 Spanish Paella Day

March 27 Spanish Paella Day

Spanish Paella Day

March 27th is observed for Spanish Paella Day. Paella is a traditional Spanish dish, made with rice, meat or fish, and a delicious sauce. Paella has become very popular and is known around the world. Rice paella originated in Valencia on the East coast of Spain in the mid-19th century in Valencia.

There are several kinds of paella cooked today, but we will tell only about three major styles: paella Valenciana (with green vegetables, meat, snails and beans), paella de marisco (with seafood instead of meat and snails and without green vegetables and beans), paella mixta (free-style paella with any combination of meat, seafood, vegetables and beans). No matter what kind of paella you prefer, its secret is in olive oil and saffron. Saffron gives paella its nice golden color.

At lunchtime, workers in the fields would make the rice dish in a flat pan over a fire. They mixed in whatever they could find – such as rabbits, snails and vegetables. Later, for special occasions, chicken was added. Paella has spread to every region of Spain, as well as worldwide, using almost any type of ingredient that goes well with rice.

March 21 French Bread Day

March 21 French Bread Day

March 21 French Bread Day

French Bread Day is on March 21st enjoyed by millions across the US each year.

While the baguette claims the title of “French bread,” France produces many other famous types of bread including: croissants, brioche, pain de campagne, batard, pain de mie, and fougasse.

Beginning in 1920 a labor law prevented bakers from beginning their day before 4 a.m. Bakers adjusted by shaping their loaves of bread so they baked more quickly and evenly. As a result, the long, narrow loaves were found to be convenient for slicing and storing.

The French are known for their high standards where culinary arts are concerned. To preserve quality in their bread, laws were passed requiring minimum quantities of certain quality ingredients in each loaf of bread.
