People enjoy artichokes boiled, baked, steamed, grilled, deep fried, and stuffed with all sorts of yummy fillings.

It is a Greek mythology, Zeus turned his mistress Cynara into the first artichoke plant when he caught her sneaking away from Olympia. Spanish settlers cultivated them in California during the 1600s. Artichokes didn't gain popularity in America until early 1900s.

California grows 60% of all Bartlett pears in the United States. There are more than 3,000 varieties of pears grown in the world. Pears are an excellent source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C as well as copper, fiber and potassium. Pears are less allergenic than many other fruits.

During the first world war, the United States find that the European use of canines as patrolling, message carriers and several other duties. The first Dogs for Defense were trained and assigned to duty in North Africa in November 1942.

As the time passed the military, police and rescue have developed a variety of training methods for K9 units. Dogs for Defense program was initiated by Mrs. Alene Erlanger with the American Kennel Club and a handful of breeders, the group aimed to train the dogs for military use.
