August 13 Filet Mignon Day

August 13 Filet Mignon Day

Filet Mignon Day is observed annually on August 13. In French, filet mignon may be called “filet de boeuf”, which translates to beef fillet in English.
Due to the low levels of fat found in the fillets, bacon is often used in cooking. The bacon is wrapped around the fillet and pinned closed with a wooden toothpick. Flavor is added from the bacon and this process keeps the fillet from drying out during the cooking process.
Filet mignon is French for “cute fillet” or “dainty fillet”.

The tenderloin from which the filet mignon comes, is the tenders cut of beef and is also considered the most desirable and therefore the most expensive.
Enjoy a nice evening with a delicious filet mignon meal together with friends and family.

August 12 Julienne Fries Day

August 12 Julienne Fries Day

On August 12, each year Julienne Fries Day is observed on. Julienne fries are a type of French fries that are thinner than regular fries. They are sometimes referred to as shoestring fries.
Julienne is a culinary knife cut in which food items are cut into long thin strips. When dealing with potatoes, it can be referred to as alumette. The word “alumette” is translated from French as “matchstick”, hence one more name, the matchstick cut. The measurement for julienne is approximately 1/8 inch x 1/8 inch x 1-2 inches.

Julienning is probably the most popular method of preparing French fries, at least in fast food restaurants. The easiest way to julienne potatoes at home is to use a hand-held mandolin fitted with a fine julienne blade. Shoestring fries can be made with both regular potatoes and sweet potatoes.

August 12 Middle Child Day

August 12 Middle Child Day

On August 12 Each year Middle Child Day is observed across the United States. This day gives special recognition to the middle child/children in the family.
While the first born is always considered something special, the youngest one will always be considered as the baby of the family, the middle child... well it gets the Middle Child Syndrome. Which means the middle child doesn't yet have the status of the oldest but also isn't the baby anymore. The Middle Child's Day was created to show some appreciation to children in this unfavorable position.

Some studies have shown that in a family with multiple children, the oldest and the youngest get the most attention from their parents while those in between tend to be left by themselves, often ignored and forgotten. Middle children have to often fight for attention of their parents and may sometimes feel like they do not belong to the family.
Now today where you get some attention and love, at the expense of your other siblings. Parents should try to get some attention to those kids.

Son and Daughter Day invites the mums and dads to pause and remember that it is not all stress and work but that their children are actually pure joy.

No matter how old a person gets, their parents still see him or her as a child - someone to protect and shower love on. So, take this day to tell your sons and daughters how much they mean to you and that you respect them and love them.
The best gift to give on Son and Daughter Day is the gift of time. If your children are still living at home, take some time out of your schedule to truly enjoy their company. If your children have moved away, make sure they return so you can spend quality family time together.

On August 11, 1984, just before his regular Saturday radio address, President Ronald Reagan was doing a voice test with the microphone. He thought the microphone and the feed was not live. He joked into the microphone: "My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you I just signed legislation which outlaws Russia forever. The bombing begins in five minutes." To his surprise, he was speaking to a live feed.
This incident led to the creation of "Presidential Joke Day".
