June 4 Old Maids Day

June 4 Old Maids Day

Every year on June 4, Old Maid's Day is observed on June 04. “Old Maid” refers to an older, childless woman who has never been married. A "spinster" is not simply a "single" woman, but a woman who has not formed a human pair bond by the time she is approaching or has reached menopause and the end of her reproductive lifespan.

Now-a-days, being a single, unmarried, and woman is not looked upon as a “bad thing”. Some women choose to focus on careers and their lives, postponing marriage and child bearing until later in life and some choose to always remain single, independent and self-sufficient. However, years ago being unmarried and childless was very much frowned upon and these women were referred to as “old maids” or “spinsters”, which was a degrading term.

Old Maid's Day brings awareness to those of us who have not yet found their Prince Charming. An old maid, or spinster, is an older, childless woman who has never been married.
